It's messages that say "Liberals are assholes" or "Conservatives are bigots" that ruins politics. Come on, people, we need to be fair! Yes, some liberals can be assholes, and yes some conservatives can be bigots, but you cant let a few apples spoil the bunch. Back up your claim with facts, not rhetoric.

Very true and a good start.
Each citizen should have the freedom to think and reach his/her own conclusions without being defined.
I am more aware of the effort of the "vast right wing conspiracy" to change the language to their advantage but whenever we draw these broad generalizations we are of course inaccurate.
The premise itself as stated in the opening post is bogus.
There has been a calculated effort to delegitimize a whole point of view by applying these silly generalizations.
The signers of the Declaration of Independence were all liberal.

Actually, this particular thread began with name-calling. So, technically, the best way to stay on topic is to sling mud. 
Really, though, I agree with you. It would be nice to have some actual intelligent political debate, instead of just a bunch of people saying that everyone on the other side of the fence hates America. I don't see that happening, though. Sure, there are a few reasonable people on this site, but their comments too often go unnoticed in the heat of battle.
