Post subject: Really Cool Concert Experiences |
|
|
So my best friend in Houston gave me my birthday gift, a ticket to the Dave Matthews concert just this past saturday. This being my 10th Dave show I would have to say that this has been the best as of yet.
I got at 4:30am and drove to Houston. Why so early? I promised my 12 yr old neice that she could come with us and the show was sold out. I had to get there when the box office opened (10am) on the chance that they might release tickets for the sold out show. Getting there at 9:30 I had to wait until they released tickets which is a gamble because they may not even release any. This was my last chance to get a ticket for my neice so I waited. At 12:30 some girl came up to the box office trying to sell her ticket back so I bought it from her at half price.
Now onto the show. I picked up my neice, 3 redbulls (2 for me 1 for her) later we were there. The place was jammed packed with some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Everyone is there for a good time and it shows. Not a sad face in the crowd. Even my best friend who doesnt like Dave all that much was happy to be there.
Dave comes on right as the sun begins to set, you know just when the sky is pink and orange. So beautiful. The crowd jumps up and the show begins. Dave played his heart out. My neice was laughing at me when I started to dance like a hippy but no one cared, it was all a good time.
I think the best part of the show was the encore. It was only one song but it there was something special about it. Dave really didnt sing a whole lot during it, the crowd was doing all the singing. He walks out and starts to play his guitar. He never said a word, there was no prompt but out of no where, the crowd starts singing the song. Dave just smiled and kept playing. When we get to the first chorus Dave starts to sing, only it was the backup vocals. Then the rest of the band comes out and sings the backup vocals to. The whole time we were just showing our appreciation and was saying thank you. After 10 shows I have never seen Dave connect with the crowd the way he did saturday night.
As soon as we got back to my truck my neice fell right to sleep. I think when her sugar high wore off from the redbull it knocked her completely out. This morning when I woke up, my sister gave me a hug and thanked me for bringing her to the show. My neice was still talking about it when I left. On my way back to BR, my dad called me and told me that he was glad I took Jacqui (my neice). He asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I told him that I already got what I wanted. A wonderful experience that I could share with my neice. It made everything that much more special.
