i've been in kirby for 2 weeks now and am having some trouble meeting new people. my roommate is my (was my) best friend. i cant stand being around him now. i live for the 3 hours a day he's in class. i'm a pretty normal all american guy from new orleans and i definitely want to make new friends here and i know there are guys in the same boat as me but i really don't know how to go about it. any advice?

are you just saying new orleans because no one knows where kenner/metairie is? (I should know, I was raised Kenner.. living in Metairie)
what high school did you go to?

ah cool... i graduated from john curtis in '98 .. dropped out of lsu somewhere around '00 ...
as for meeting people ... i duno any specific ways to tell you ... when i went there, they stuck a buncha freshmen in Johnston Hall (used to be a dorm, it was turned into an office building.. but the 2nd 3rd and 4th floors were used as a dorm in fall '98 ...
i was one of the lucky freshmen... since it was un-a/c'd, a lot of people hung out outside of the dorm (cause it wasn't as hot) .. i just kinda worked my way into the group .. made a few friends cause of it..

TigerU is a good place to meet new people.. you might also wanna get involved in a student organization.. there is a Student Org fair coming up.. go check them out..
Specifically to TigerU... a group of us do things pretty regularly... go bowling Tuesday nights.. you're welcome to join us.

i agree w/ awe on that, go to the student org fair from 11-1ish on wednesday i think, and see if you can find a club u like. beware of the political ones! also in our dorm they have stupid activities that the RA's want you to go do, usually they have posters or papers up in the halls about it. even if they are stupid, GO! its still a good way to meet ppl. and sometimes get food.

I know it's bad but if you're a smoker, you can meet all kinds of people who also smoke on and off campus....
