I need info on financial aid. I am thinking about going to school to get a degree in instrumentation. I would not be going to LSU obviously. I'm wondering if anyone can give me any information on student loans, suchas how much I might qualify for and how they determine how much you are qualified to receive and can I use some of the money to pay living expenses (my bills) while I am going to school. The course I want to take takes at least 15 months to complete and costs almost $19,000. Also I was told that the amount of aid I can get is different if I decide to take the course at night plus if I take it at night it will take 32 months to complete. My problem right now is the fact that I have to come up with around $1200 every month to cover the bills I have (that isn't including food for me or gas for my vehicle). Any information would be helpful. Thanx

You'll have to talk to the school you want to go to in order to know wether they accept federal financial aid or not. As far as what you're qualified for, everyone is qualified for aid. Some just get mroe than others. At the very least, your tuition and fees will be paid. I believe technical schools usually accept federal financial aid, but I know that BRCC does not. Talk to the school.

There are two kinds of student loans: subsidized and unsubsidized. Now, I don't remember which is which, but I know that one does not accrue interest until you graduate or leave school, and the other accrues interest from the day you accept the loan.

You can apply for aid online...search google for "fafsa" - the free application for federal student aid.

Yeha I got the FAFSA form from the school. I'm wanting to go to ITI technical college for an instrumentation and process operations degree course. I'm 28 yrs. old and I do not live with my parents. If I could get all the tuition paid with loans and get a few thousand in grants I should be able to pay my bills with a menial job somewhere.

One my brother turned 25 this past year, he received like a 2 thousand dollar check PLUS his tuition was already paid for with a financial aid loan..so that money was just his to spend as he chose. He just got another 2 thousand dollar check in the mail the toher day for this semester. My cousin got the same thing when he turned 25..guess thats the magic age.

What kind of grant did he get. I talked to the school and i will need 3 student loans to pay for tuition and they said that even if i got a grant (I don't qualify for Pell) the money would go to the school anyway. Hopw the fuck does anybody live on a part time job and go to school. From what the financial aid person told me at the school there is pretty much no way I can get money to live on while I go to school, I have to work. She said that any loans or grants will go towards my tuition or the loans or something like that. Oh well doesn't look like I will be going to school.

LSU is pretty inexpensive. It is possible to get grants / awards / scholarships and live.
If you get tops, I think that will pay for most of your tuition, if you get a pell grant, that’s at max 4K a year, I don’t know what LSU will give you, as an undergrad I almost always got around 3K a year. Think you can live on 1500 a semester, $375 a month.
In Rolla this was possible. If you need some beer money a part time job on campus was the way to go. About 60~100 bucks a week to sit and do nothing but study and answer the phone or something, about 120~160 if you have a skilled labor type gig.
That would bring your monthly allowance up around 700 bucks a month. If you did not drive, it was pretty easy to make that go far, if you did not live in the dorms.

ok folks i have about 1400/month in bills as it is. thats what i have to pay before i eat or put gas in my truck or drink a beer or anything. anybody know any way to come up with that on a part time job b/c i don't see it happening. hell it's hard enough to make that with a full time job. fuck it i think i'll just keep working until i can figure out a way to cheat the financial aid system. if i can beat the IRS surely there's a way to beat these fuckers.
