Post subject: DONT donate to TigerU |
  |
|
As a joke I donated a penny to tigeru.com but now one of the admin of tigeru is upset because tigeru didn't get anything out of it...Then he was upset because he thought it cost tigeru money but it didn't. Now he refunded my penny and is taking my name off the donations list because it wasn't enough. How I look at it is that it was a whole PENNY and it was a joke...So, I say don't donate to TigerU...

I'm not concerned that it was a penny.. I'm concerned that you "donated" less than the transaction fee... so the only one getting anything out of it is you.. because you got a good laugh out of it.
21 Feb 05 - 21:56 > AWE: nah.. it went straight to Paypal.
21 Feb 05 - 21:56 > phoAm: They have your precious.
21 Feb 05 - 21:55 > Cyber22: well, its not all of my penny because i gave it to tigeru..so paypal took all of its penny
21 Feb 05 - 21:55 > phoAm: He meant to say, "freatfgfluf".
21 Feb 05 - 21:53 > AWE: ungreatful?
21 Feb 05 - 21:53 > AWE: yeah.. paypal took all of your penny
21 Feb 05 - 21:50 > Cyber22: ungreatful bastards
21 Feb 05 - 21:50 > BenKenobi: (if one looks in the account, it says "received: $0.01, fees: $0.01)
21 Feb 05 - 21:50 > phoAm: Stylin' like a vile one.
21 Feb 05 - 21:49 > BenKenobi: actually, it didn't cost us anything.. they just took it all
21 Feb 05 - 21:49 > Cyber22: i wont donate again
21 Feb 05 - 21:41 > phoAm: I'm all bling bling now.
21 Feb 05 - 21:38 > phoAm: hahaha
21 Feb 05 - 21:38 > AWE: I refunded his penny .. I guess we have to edit the donor's list manually
21 Feb 05 - 21:35 > phoAm: stupid penny
21 Feb 05 - 21:35 > AWE: Total Amount:
21 Feb 05 - 21:35 > AWE: seems the penny cancels itself out
21 Feb 05 - 21:34 > phoAm: Then someone needs to put that the minimum donation is a dollar or something.
21 Feb 05 - 21:33 > LEstay: its like 35 cents plus a small percentage
21 Feb 05 - 21:32 > AWE: that's the Voltron I think I had.
21 Feb 05 - 21:32 > AWE: no.. there is a flat rate plus a percent
21 Feb 05 - 21:32 > phoAm: Well.. paypal charges a fraction of the penny.
21 Feb 05 - 21:31 > AWE: I think by donating a penny he actually cost us money
21 Feb 05 - 21:30 > phoAm: Somebody donated a penny hahahaha

Alex didn't you have some kind of discussion about this relating to the CRA a while back. Weren't you saying how shitty it was for the CRA to make you donate more than the transation fee and here you are critizing that Cyber22 didn't donate enough to cover the fee?
Seriously, if you don't want this to happen, it looks like you are going to have to eat crow and force a minimum donation just as the CRA did. What goes around comes around Alex, sorry to say, but it's a true proveb.

Nope.
I was saying how shitty it was that they were forcing someone who wanted to only donate 1 dollar to donate 3. Also, instead of it being a donate feature it was a "buy" feature.
If someone were to go in to donate money they were charged a 2 dollar shipping and handling fee because it was felt that because a transaction fee existed somehow the 2 dollars additional was necessary to outweigh it when it really wasn't.
The whole point of paypal and accepting credit cards is to make transactions easy. That's why you eat the transaction fee.
It's quite a different scenario.
If only a dollar was donated it would have benefitted the club. Would have paid for the sticker, envelope, postage and still have some money left over to put in the bank.
Carl, I think you need to know what you are talking about before you go off on me.
As for your minimum donation suggestion, I agree.
The reason being that if you donate something less than the minimum transaction fee you are WASTING YOUR MONEY
$0.30 + 2.9% of the transaction = the transaction fee.
So if you donate anything below 31 cents anyone you're sending money to gets Zero.

Don't give money to tigeru..Alex even says you are wasting your money!
Anyway, the ads alone on this site should keep Alex's pockets full. So why ask us for money.

yeah, sorry to get back on the topic here, but I thought it was kind of interesting to see the ads show up, and then asking for donations. Are you hungry for money? I know I am, thats why I got a job
when you created this site, did you have a business plan that showed a great financial gain? I had always thought it was just for the fun of it. Are you going to start charging a membership fee next?
I would have given you my 2 cents, but ya'll didn't want it.

I co-own a business and have a job.. and I'm about to get a job working overnight..

Ok, what harm is there in providing a way for people to contribute money and placing non-intrusive (i.e. no pop-up or "floating") ads? I'm not even PUSHING the issue.. The only thing I did was say "everyone refresh and check out the donations block" ... That's it.. No forum posts, no annoucements, no e-mail, no IMs, no PMs..
Does seeing an ad, or seeing a donation block really detract from your enjoyment of this site THAT much?
I don't expect to retire off of money made from TigerU .. But, if someone feels like rewarding Alex and I for the work we put into this site, more power to them..
.. I'd like to hear from someone who has donated, or is going to, or wants to but can't.. I want to know why you are doing or want to do so. (in other words, can a get a little backup here?)

Yep, and we pointed out that anything less than $0.35 gets eaten by PayPal ... If you'd like to donate less than that, please don't hesitate to mail it to us, or give it to Alex in person.

why do yall have to be asses about this? i mean damn, if you can't afford to donate or just don't want to, that's fine, but don't belittle the efforts of chris and alex to raise money. there is a core group that uses this site all the time and it does have many entertaining features. they should be rewarded for their efforts in maintaining it. like chris said there are no pop-ups or floaters aggravating you everytime you come here, just a little box where you can donate if you want to. give'em a break for once, if you got the change and you think it's worth it give'em a little if not then don't worry about it, but don't give them a hard time for trying to make a little more money off of their site.
