I have a dwarf hamster and she urinates like Johnny Depp smokes.
Do you think she may be diabetic?

Sorry for responding to this late, haven't been on.
Excessive urine output could be a sign of diabetes in your hamster. There are a few other symptoms including increased thirst and appetite. Sudden weight gain and loss as well as sudden aggressive behavior could be a sign of diabetes. There are test kits you can get to measure ketones and blood glucose level. Usually you can just use the hamster's urine for the test so don't worry about having to draw blood in any way. I believe the test you are looking for is called keto diastix. I am not sure where to get one, I will do a bit of searching tomorrow. In the mean time you can call your vet if you have one or just call around to see where you can get one.
If you do get a kit post your results and I will tell you what you should do.
There is also another problem excessive wetness is a sign of. Wet tail is a common problem with the common hamster but I haven't seen it too much with dwarf hamsters. If this is the case you should go to a pet store and buy some wet tail solution and put a few drops in his water. In the mean time you can make a hydrating solution with water, salt, baking soda, and sugar. I will list the precise amounts below. I am sorry this isn't very detailed but it is late. I will do some more research for you.
Solution: This solution is more commonly known as Pedialyte
* 1 cup water (boiled then cooled)
* Small pinch of baking soda
* Small pinch of Salt
* 2 teaspoons of sugar
Baking soda isn't imperative so if you don't have it, don't worry too much. What you will need to do is make this solution and fill his water bottle half way. Then you will need to fill the rest with regular water.
Remember that if your hamster is in fact diabetic this solution may not be the greatest thing to do depending on his ketone/glucose reading. The kit is very inexpensive if I remember correctly so if you can get one go ahead. If not just try to treat for wet tail, if it continues for a couple days then stop and see if your vet may be able to do a test, I doubt they would even charge you for it, unless they were assholes.
One thing to keep in mind, wet tail is usually fatal so treat it asap. That is why I say if you can't get a test, treat for wet tail. I hope this helps you out, and like I said I will try and look for info.
