-Call as many animal hospitals as you can and ask them to put up a sign in their clinic. Make sure to describe everything you know (breed, size, male/female, neutered, collar/tags, colors/markings, neighborhood lost/found). A lot of people call looking for pets and sometimes are reunited thanks to the vet.

-Call animal control.

-Put up clear signs in the nieghborhood.

Want to avoid losing your pet?
-Neuter your male dogs and cats.
-Keep a collar and tags on cats and dogs, for cats use breakaway collars so they don't hurt themselves
-Micro-chipping is always a great option. All the animals brought into animal control are scanned to see if they are micro-chipped.

Thanks for the very informative post. I am glad peopl are starting to use the forum more and I can only hope many people see this particular post because there are a lot of pets out there without homes that were either lost or abandoned.

I would just like to add one thing. Don't get a pet unless you plan to be responsible. Don't get a puppy or kitten because it is cute and throw it out later because it grew up. Also if you aren't ready to have babies to take care of, get your pet spayed or neutered. There are so many homeless animals and it is both sad and sickening that people are capable of that.

Sorry I deviated a bit from the original post, just thought it may be useful to add.

Thanks again for the great post.

I agree with you completely. Too many people get puppies not realizing what they are getting themselves into. DOGS ARE EXPENSIVE. One can easily spend 1000$ in the first year of their puppies life.
