By Brennan DavidIt has been a little bit over a year and a half now, and it finally looks like there will be fans in the new west upper deck in Tigers Stadium.
On Sept. 3, the LSU Tigers will play host to North Texas in Tiger Stadium to open up their 2005 campaign for a national championship bid to Pasadena, Cal. The event will not only welcome new head coach Les Miles, but it will also open up a new era in LSU football, one with a new upper deck.
At the close of the 2003 national championship season, construction began outside Tiger Stadium as the foundation and grounds were arranged and positioned so that demolition of the west upper deck could take place in one year. Demolition then took place at the conclusion of the 2004 football season as the west upper deck, which stood since 1978 holding a little over 8,000 screaming Tiger fans, was slowly demolished.
The new upper deck will occupy 3,000 Stadium Club seats divided into three levels, while a new press box will also be constructed under the main deck. The $60 million dollar renovation will occupy more fans than the now retired upper deck, pushing the total Tiger Stadium attendance just over 92,000 people.
