By Brian FontenotI caught Bernard Goldberg on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I’m no fan of Goldberg and I did think his book titled, “100 People Who Are Screwing Up America,” was just silly. Jon Stewart is far more intelligent than he is given credit for and he spent the show ripping on Goldberg’s book. Stewart surprised me when he espoused the belief that all the power exists in Washington, not in Hollywood.
Jon Stewart was wrong. Washington has nothing to do with children killing children for iPods or Starter Jackets or Air Jordans. The Defense Department has no power over the belief drug dealing and working as a hit man, can be glamorous. And the Senate, no matter how much it legislates, will remove the distorted egotism, which recently led to a man getting shot in the face in front of his daughter in La Place. In a nation so fervently in support of freedom, we should know the government is only capable of controlling the body, not the spirit. And as much as we attempt to deny it, Hollywood is part of our spirit.
