Live in on of the horseshoe dorms or pentagon for a year, then apply to ECA and WCA. I lucked out, I transferred and they moved me right into ECA even though I had never lived on campus anywhere, and was only on the waiting list for 3 months. When I turned in my housing application I put WCA and ECA as my first choices, knowing I probably wouldn't get them but it was worth a shot. Turns out that was a pretty good idea.

It depends on what you are looking for. I lived on campus for all 5 of my undergraduate years (3 years I was an RA).
I loved the West Side of campus because it had a community feel and it was close to the athletic facilities.
If you haven't already, you may want to check out Residential Life's website. There you can apply for housing, check ur application status, and they find roomies for you.
The Pentagon had a really nice and fun community last year. I can't really speak of any other buildings though. You may want to try one of Residential Colleges too. They have live and learn environments.[/url]

I lived in Kirby .. Other than the pee in the elevators, it wasn't that bad.. I've certainly lived in worse (Johnston Hall)

The re-re-opened it? Damn.. Is it A/C'd now? That and the elevator being broken (and living on the 4th floor) were my only complaints...

Since Benkenobi's days at Kirby a lot has changed.
Now when you take a dump in the elevator they have you on tape!
But seriously a lot of issues have been dealt with.. new elevators.. renovated main lobby.. it's not as nasty as it used to be. Several members on the site live there I hope they put in their 2 cents.

It's just office space from what I understand. I think I've only been on the first floor of Johnston. Student org office, Greeks office and the Deans office are all there (last I checked)

Which hall, of the ones in the Pentagon, would you all reccomend for an incoming freshman who's basically just looking for a lax hall rules-wise where it's easy to meet people and the rooms are decent?

I would think all the halls in the pentagon would be pretty much the same... of course I was a commuter. So I don't know all the intricacies of residential life.

I don't know about Pentagon dorms specifically, but here's a couple things to consider:
1) It's really easy to meet people in dorms because many (or most) first semester Freshmen (like yourself) don't know anyone either and are looking for new friends. It's true: you meet your lifelong friends in college. ... Established students find out where the 'cool' dorms are and migrate there after their first year, but it's best to start with other first-year peeps than to follow the Sophomores & Juniors. They already have their friend circles which will be difficult to break in to.
2) All dorms have pretty much the same basic set of rules. Occasionally, specific dorms have additional unique rules because of their construction. (For example, 'no shitting in the elevators' is not a necessary rule for dorms that don't have elevators.) Then, rules enforcement depends to a large extent on the RA which may not be appointed until sometime long after you've been assigned a dorm. Whether a particular hall turns wild depends mainly on the chemistry of the people in it - i.e. there are no designated 'lax dorms' vs. 'strict dorms'.
3) Compared to home and highschool, college rules in general are pretty 'lax', for some people dangerously so. College rules have mainly two functions: (a) get as much money out of you as possible while you're here and (b) minimize the amount of damage inflicted on campus buildings, which costs money to repair. There are, of course, political correctness rules here and there which the university has in place, but that's mainly to keep people from getting pissed off and tearing stuff up (see part (b)).
Bottom line, don't worry about the dorm. Just have a great time this summer, get all your forms and money sent over here on time, and come on over in August. LSU is the best place in the world to go to school, and dorm life is awesome.
Don't forget to bring your brain.
We'll see you in the Fall.
