The question surrounding buying course books is not about which book to buy, but rather, which store to buy from. When the time is right for book buying, the most important thing to remember is that comparison shopping never harmed anyone, and with so many abundant choices of bookstores around campus, you just shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to save your coins. Getting the same book for a cheaper price than a classmate has somewhat become a game for LSU students. With these four bookstore game pieces, you too can become a winning contestant.

Chimes TextBook Exchange (CTX)

268 W Chimes

383-5161

This bookstore is the only local one of its kind to offer an exciting new convenience. Instead of standing in long lines, students can order books online, and after presenting a LSU ID in person, can walk out of the store with a book, not a headache. CTX staff has been working all summer long in attempts at preparing the store for the busiest week of the year.

“We get ready for the unexpected to happen,” said Sylvia Hinojosa, manager. “When we know that we can handle that, we know we are ready.”

Hinojosa suggests students buy books as soon as possible, especially in early morning. Staff has access to all course listings and is ready to assist in any way. CTX is open at 8 a.m. the first two weeks of school, will close at 9 p.m. the first week, and is also open Saturday and Sunday before and after the first week. A full refund is possible anytime during the first week.

College Supply Company

166 W Chimes St

383-4850

“The aim of the game is to save money, not waste it,” said Stacey Sudge, assistant manager. According to Sudge, College Supply likes to think of itself as the “friendly bookstore.” They try to prove that day in, day out by welcoming comparison shopping, hiring extra employees before the book rush and grabbing books off shelves for students. It is expected that Wednesday, August 25, will be the most crowded day, so Sudge suggests students shop early. A full refund can be given anytime until August 30, but the returning book must be accompanied with a special dated, handwritten receipt. Store hours begin at 8:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.

“We’re definitely ready for the crowds,” said Sudge. “Bring em’ on!”

Co-Op Bookstore

3960 Burbank Dr

383-9870

So far, business here has been steady, but not overbearing. Chris Prescott, manager, explains that 26 temporary employees will be on staff to handle escalating business. Co-Op will open earlier than any other bookstore, hours being 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. atleast until Wednesday, August 25. Now at a new location since January 15, Co-Op is definitely bigger, and according to Prescott, much better.

“We have a lot more space in this new building,” said Prescott. “There’s two and a half times more sales area, and with this new space we are able to cater to students much better. Atleast 23 registers will be opened and crowds not nearly as crowded.”

All major credit cards, cash and checks are accepted. Prescott suggests students check out their website, www.coopbookstore.com, for great purchase buys and other merchandise.

Union Bookstore

110 Union Building

578-5505

Located in the Student Union, this is LSU’s official bookstore. Passing up the urge to buy great looking LSU merchandise, a student can satisfy many school needs, anything from pens and pencils to dormroom must-have’s. On the second floor, you will find shelves stacked with course books and eager employees ready for business.
