This is the first of two published Q&A sessions conducted via phone with LSU track star Bennie Brazell while he represents the United States in Athens at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Brazell will compete in the 400-meter hurdles, and could also compete in the 4x400 relay.

In addition to being one of the more decorated athletes in Tiger history – he has won national championships with the track and field as well as football teams – LSU junior Bennie Brazell is also one of the more quotable.

So when the Texas native qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics at the U.S. Trials in Sacramento, Calif., one thing became immediately apparent: Brazell – and Athens – would never be the same again.

When asked by a Baton Rouge-based sports radio show whether or not he was worried about terrorist attacks in Greece during the Games, Brazell replied that he was not worried about terrorists because he could “outrun them.” That confident answer is hardly surprising coming from a man who once asked that his dating status be published in the LSU yearbook in case any admiring female fans wanted to contact him.
