This is a long post, you’re forewarned. I will try to make a reply of some substance. If I have missapplied some of the general stances of the candidates, let me know...I don't spend all day researching two guys I don't really like.

“It really is sad when a "man", and I use the term loosly, will get votes because of who he is not.”

I agree. Blame this on the American bipartisan system where no one but the two major parties has a shot at winning an election. Somebody tell Nader to pack up and go the hell home. Let’s have a political science major recount the benefits of proportional representation; I’m a little rusty

“Kerry is willing to wait until we are attacked before we go after known terriost. Thats like saying imma wait till the bully kicks my ass before I learn to fight”

Terrorism is not something that can be eradicated. As long as people are desperate/indoctrinated/oppressed or whatever, one can expect to see more terrorist attacks. Terrorism is cheap, easy and effective. Anything short of a police-state will have much difficulty in controlling such actions. My suggestion? Get used to it, or enlist and go try to “find” a few yourself. See below.

“And you're a gun owner Litigh8?”

Several. See below.

"Guess he won't be much longer if Kerry's elected, huh!"

"If they want my gun, they'll have to rip it out of my cold, dead fingers" Heston.

“Isn't it our constitutional right to carry a registered weapon?”

No. Own or possess? Arguably yes. We have the second amendment which helps but the interpretations can hurt. I heard from a cop that Louisiana is an open-carry state, but the public gets a little nervous with the ole .357 at your side.

"Just remember, if you vote for Kerry, you are voting for racism in legislation. Affirmative action and hate crime laws are laws based solely on the color of one's skin. Minorities will never achieve true equality as long as they vote Democrat."

See below.

“I LIKE TO SHOOT!!! CAUSE IMA CRAZY GIRL!!”

Yes, you certainly are Smile She likes the .357
--------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------
These are the following reasons I will vote for Kerry:

Pro-Choice: I’m not going to tell a lady what to do with her own body pursuant to my organized religion’s marching orders (if I was religious.) Frankly, I don’t think men should have any input on whether she fulfills the pregnancy. Disagreement, should however, have an effect on child support obligations.

Tort Reform: I am going to be a tort lawyer. Tort reform makes it more difficult to secure recovery for deserving victims of other's negligent acts. I have not yet heard of many medical malpractice insurance companies complaining of lost profits or bankruptcy due to lawsuits, perhaps that is where we should direct our regulatory attention.

Civil Unions: I think gays in monogamous relationships should be afforded the same legal protections as their heterosexual counterparts. “Marriage” exists in two worlds: legal and religious. Do not deny them the applicability of the legal regime because of your religious beliefs and blind reliance on “tradition.” Not too long ago, thinking along these same lines had blacks at different water fountains…it is time to come around folks. Hang up that hat of discrimination.

Civil Liberties (anti-Patriot Act): The PATRIOT act was useful for the period immediately following 9/11. However, now it is an unacceptable reduction on our civil liberties. It needs to be repealed, now. If you’d like to talk about the act, I’ll go print it out, all 400 pages…

Anti-Rich: I’m not loaded, neither are most of you. However, Bush likes to influence the economy in favor of the wealthy and large corporations. I don’t have specifics, and am not going to provide them, it’s rather obvious. Kerry is not too poor, by any means, but then again, when was the last time we had a poor president other than Abe?

Things that aggravate me about the Democrats:

Affirmative Action: This is the bane of today’s business and higher education. Unfortunately, a Democratic candidate’s win will not help us. I got about 5-9 cases if you want to talk about where it stands in today’s law. Don’t think I’ll find too many proponents to argue with here though.

Liberal Spending/Taxes: I support government spending in the following areas: education, roads and defense. Taxes will undoubtedly go up if Kerry wins.

Gun Control: I support background checks and prohibitions on felons and violent offenders from owning firearms legitimately. Problem is that most of them don’t pick up their weapons from Wal-Mart or Jims. Gun owners get beat over the head every time some dumb fuck leaves out his gun and kids die. There should also be exceedingly severe criminal penalties for carelessness resulting in the death of a child. You should have to pass a federal firearms safety certification test to own a firearm, plain and simple. Much of the anti-gun legislation is brought upon by an irrational fear of firearms, once you get used to them, and respect them, there's nothing from which to be frightened. I’d like to have a M249 just to play with; but we all know that’s really not necessary for my safety.

Conclusion

It really just comes down to a balance of what is most important to you. For me, privacy and personal autonomy are key issues. The Bush administration has acted to the detriment of both. Disagree with me if you wish, but at least you have an opinion, which gives you points in my book.

TheDude wrote:

Duff, in case you haven't noticed, Democrats tend to define the second amendment totally different from what the founding fathers intended and from what subsequent scholars, intellectuals, and normal, every day citizens of this country interpet it to mean. Even if the GOP retains control over one or both houses of Congress, individual Democrat-controlled states will continue to erode gun ownership rights, and the Kerry-appointed Attorney General and federal judges will do nothing to stop it. In fact, the Department of Justice may even actively go in on one of the class-action lawsuits filed against bullet and gun-makers. Then we're all screwed...

Your right I don’t really understand the difference in interpretation in the second amendment in relation to the state militia part, or what it means. The government already profoundly limits what arms citizens are allowed to have, do you think the limitations in place now should change?
On the topic of individual states that wish to erode ownership rights, that is currently part of states rights, and I do not wish to see states rights illegally infringed upon anymore than they have by this administration. That does not mean I am against the whole administration, in this case I am pro states rights, “no new federalism”. I believe that this country maintains its strength through freedom and not regulation, others might argue.
From what I have heard Bush believes is “The best way to protect our citizens from guns is to prosecute those who commit crimes with guns”. Ashcroft has a similar policy. Where Bush and Ashcroft differ from each other is on back ground checks, Bush wants to make them bigger and better, and with substantial responsibility, and Ashcroft wants them to be shorter, easier and let the government worry about gun violence after it happens.
My question is do you think Ashcroft is going to stand up for your freedoms against the wishes of President Bush?
If the DOJ goes in on a class-action lawsuit I agree, things will be tougher, but I am not for limiting the rights that allow such lawsuits.

Reflections on historical affirmative actions:

Frederick Douglass delivered this message to a group of abolitionists about 140 years ago:

"[I ]n regard to the colored people, there is always more that is benevolent, I perceive, than just, manifested towards us. What I ask for the negro is not benevolence, not pity, not sympathy, but simply justice. The American people have always been anxious to know what they shall do with us... I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are worm-eaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! ... And if the negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone! ... [Y]our interference is doing him positive injury."

Taken from Justices Thomas and Scalia in Grutter v. Bollinger 539 US 306 (2003).

Question brutality? more like idiocy. some men have very strong opinions on the subject of being pro-choice. their opinions are just as valid as any woman's. in my opinion it IS ultimately up to the woman to decide, but there is absolutely no logic in your comment.

I'm going to pull a Brooster's Millions, and vote none of the above. Bush is not exactly a genius, but I like the fact that he at least is a man of action instead of solely a puppet for a party. Kerry I dunno if he even has a shance on anything other then... vote for me, I'm not bush. A sound arguement to some, but will take a little more then that to run the country. I don't want my vote to hypothetically decide who gets elected, because in some way I'd feel responsible for whatever that person did. Now... repeal that little clause saying you have to be of american birth to be president and put Arnold up, I'll open a damn campaign center.

Well you're a woman, How dare you comment on what a man feels. Men who know how to get laid, will say and/or agree with anything and everything just to get them in bed because the more that the man and the woman have "in common," the more likely they are to get laid. Considering that the majority of women are pro-choice, a male without a heart will blindly agree with the pro-choice opinion of the woman to get simply get laid, it is all VERY logical when you look at it this way.

The flaw logically to your agruement is that this is not some bar or party scene... its an internet forum, no man that states opinion here should have a reasonable expectation that it will in any way lead to their being laid. And not all men are without integrety, shutter to think, but some guys actually have values they will stick to.

I had a well-reasoned response worked up when my power went out for several hours yesterday. I'm not going to bother to rewrite it, other forum members have effectively stated approximately what I would say. Additionally, I am not motivated to invest thought addressing posts that are completely off the level of discussion I was seeking to attain. Well ok, here's a few:

BrutalitybytheTruth wrote:

Hypocrite.

1. Justify your statement that most women are pro-choice.
2. Justify your assumption that a guy cannot have a legitimate opinion on abortion without sex as his sole motivator.
3. Justify your assumption that being pro-choice will turn you into a beacon of male sexuality, pulling in all women in your immediate area.
4. Defend your positions with some actual thoughts, as I think you're merely trying to get everyone aggravated.

If you want to play the argument game with me, you're going to need some practice. Your posts (so far) are full of shit, and that's the brutal truth.
