Post subject: Farewell Swamp Mama's - Red Stick Comedy hits the road!! |
  |
|
Hey everyone, it was fun while it lasted, but Red Stick Comedy is hitting the road again! Swamp Mama's has been sold & is currently undergoing renovations, so last Friday's Red Stick Comedy Block was our last show at that location!!
Stay tuned to TigerU & Red Stick Comedy for more details on the new location for our shows. In the meantime, let us know if you have a particular place you'd like to see us in the future!
For more on Swamp Mama's, here's the story released in today's Daily Report:
Walk-Ons owners opening downtown restaurant, martini bar
Walk-Ons owners Brandon Landry and Jack Warner teamed up with Troy LeBlanc yesterday to purchase Swamp Mama's on Third Street. The group plans to turn the 3,000-plus-square-foot space into The Roux House, Warner said at the monthly DDD meeting this morning. The former Tiger basketball walk-ons describe the new restaurant as a cross between two New Orleans institutions: Mother's and Pat O'Brien's. The first-floor restaurant will serve home-cooked Creole favorites in a casual, pay-at-the-counter atmosphere, while the upstairs space will be converted into a piano/martini bar. The Roux House will debut in early January. It will offer lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., then reopen for "happy hour" at 4 p.m. and close for the night at 2 a.m. "We're happy to be here downtown," Warner told the DDD board. "We're going to have a big ole party, and you're all invited." (Jeff Roedel)

i hope they fail miserably those pricks.
I don't care where we move it to, i just want to get on stage.
Somewhere in college or seigen area would probably draw bigger crowds, i don't have any official suggestions yet.

The Five Star Bar sounds like the only promising place to me.. I haven't been to Sogo Live or Parrot Beach yet though.

The problem with 5 star, unless edie and jeremy know something i dont, is that they aren't open on Wednesday. That means they would have to open another night, and staff it.
What and where is Sogo Live.

SoGo Live is a new venue downtown, next to the Argosy, with a free parking garage across the street. We went there to check out Emily's Dec. victim the other nite & were planning on doing headliner shows there later.

I'm with Funky..I like North Gate or Red Star..maybe Cafe Regae as well..they have a spoken word on tuesdays that is usually quite popular and i am sure they would be happy to have something else happening during the week...

SoGo live isnt bad at all, they have a huge stage and seating and lots of tv that can be directed towards the stage. It hosted a good oil wrestling match, so Im sure It could host a good comedy place.
