Post subject: Why do tiger pause games cost money? |

LSU will pay for tutors and even work-study but charges students a small amount to play games in what I think is technically the union basement. Why?

i think tutors and work study are more beneficial to the student than games does lsu get to keep that money?

LSU is basically a business entity that is in the market to make money. All of these so called "programs to help students" such as the work-study program are costing us more money than they are helping. For instance the funds being used on work study could be used to help a number of other problems around campus. The cost in the union food center is much too high why not give us a break there? Work-study simply focuses on the few that don't always need it. I mean just because your parents technically make X amount of money should not prevent you from gettting the necessary monetary help that you might need. For instance i don't qualify for work study cuz my parents are on a certain level but that doesn't mean they pay for my expenses(they don't by the way) so i have to work.
The point is good things only appear good until you take a closer look. LSU does what it does purely for money and for that reason we should treat them as a business entity and not personally. I say we all should go on a destructive tirade accross campus destroying shit until they lower prices  .
If everyone will join me we could successfully change the way the future views LSU as a whole.

while i agree that lsu is a money making venture. the reasion behind charging money for games is to help pay for the students that work at the pool counter and to bring in and fix the games/new games. also to paint the walls from time to time etc. Also if you didnt charge anything. everyone and their sister would be dropping of their little brats and useing the game room as a free baby sitter. and even if they had someone standing there to check id's You would narrow it down to only the brats whos parrents go to, teach, or administer at lsu. then you wouldnt have room to play.

I don't have a problem with paying 3.50 for an hour of pool. That's pretty good. And board games like chess are free =)
But I don't think it's the University's job to make sure all the games are up to date and on the cutting edge of technology. They are treating them like any other piece of equipment, they are going to keep it until its cost of maintenance exceeds its value or tax credit.
They aren't in the business of running an arcade, though I think out of anything in the union, that is where they should outsource next =) If it is being run profitably now, it could be even more profitable being run by a company that brings in new games etc.

That's because it's outsourced to Chartwells. But I think 3 bucks for a plate of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans is very competitive.

Parents are legally obligated to provide education to their children until the age of 23. Once you're over 23, financial aid comes much easier. The moral is don't lose TOPS =) I regret it now.
