I am a senior in high school and I live in Kentucky. I am debating whether or not to go to LSU this fall. My question is, are there many local bands and are there good opportunities to join a band on campus? I would like to get into a metal band down there.

Mark, I think you'll find what you're looking for here and if you don't.. you can always start your own.

I saw a band at the Spanish Moon a few months ago.. they only did one cover song their entire set and they were metal. All music students at LSU.

I think the bands name was A Pound of Pure. Adam would know a little more about them.

I'd also like to add that Louisiana is the birthplace of a lot of the music that we know today.. Jazz.. we had a heavy influence on blues and Rock and Roll also.

Nah, that's bullshit. There are original bands all over the place. I work at Kinko's, so behind me is Northgate Tavern, who more often than not features original bands, and right in front of me is Chelsea's--same thing. Dimestore Troubadours, The Gold Standard, Pound of Pure, Zenbilly, Elsah, The Captain Legendary Band, Secret Annexe...there's tons of original bands around here, and I've named less than 10% of them.

Do many metalheads go there? I'm not talking about nu metal or metalcore. I'm more into death and black metal and everything related to that.

Yeah, but those are the only 2 places where you see original metal music. And every band I've seen at either place sucks. There are very few good original bands in Baton Rouge.

I am more concerned about the fact that this guy wants to base his college career around where he can get into a shitty garage band.

Don't we have enough people asking for change around here?

Considering I have been involved in music for quite some time and it is what I want to pursue as a career, a band would bring good experience. I'm in a band up here, and have been in several before, but LSU is supposed to have a good music department. So before you jump to conclusions, maybe you should get the facts, that is if you have enough capacity to think, which from your post, seems highly unlikely. Wink
