Very true and a good start.
Each citizen should have the freedom to think and reach his/her own conclusions without being defined.
I am more aware of the effort of the "vast right wing conspiracy" to change the language to their advantage but whenever we draw these broad generalizations we are of course inaccurate.
The premise itself as stated in the opening post is bogus.
There has been a calculated effort to delegitimize a whole point of view by applying these silly generalizations.
The signers of the Declaration of Independence were all liberal.

I'm sure that there are many leftists who mostly fullfill the definition of liberal, and I'm sure that there are a lot on the right who do too, regardless of the stereotypes they're thrown in with (Ie right-wing fascist). I'm also sure that the definition of "liberal" has changed a few times over the past 200 years, with respect to politics.. and that the "liberals" who signed the DoI weren't the same brand as the "liberals" we have today. I'll grab the book next time I hit my old bookshelf of fun at my rent's house and post more on that later.

Which time is that? Everytime I make a post with logical explanations the only thing anyone comes back with is, "Four more years". You do not relize that calling liberals "Those damn Liberals!" is kind of thinking that leads to civil war. We in America are lucky that we are civil enough not too let that kind of thinking run rampant, otherwise 4 years ago A civil war would have started against the Democrats and the Republicans over who should be president over the idiotic re-re-counting of votes in 1 county in 1 state.

I don't really see what is all that wrong with the State working together with churches (or synagogues, mosques, druid crop circles, whatever). The government has proven to do an incredibly horrible--as well as a very excessively wasteful and costly--job as health care providers. Religious institutions have run hospitals, orphanges and nursing homes for centuries with far better efficiency and effectiveness than anything bureaucratic governments have ever mustered. The governments of the world should stop worrying about banning faith-based organizations from schools, government property, etc. and let them do the charitable things that they have the experience and compassion for. As they say, "Politicians make lousy doctors."

I am inclined to concur with what you are saying. While I can agree with "Atilla" that liberals are bringing our country down, I think that he does tend to be a bit too angry there. I mean heck, I can understand him being angry as I don't like our country being dragged face down in the muck either, but, ultimately, that anger doesn't really help solve anything per se and may in fact actually fuel the dissenting movements of the left.
What you generally allude to above, however--that liberals have the right to believe and say what they want in a free society (no matter how incorrect their opinions may be)--is also very correct on your part.

Agreed. Our country has already seen the evils of civil war once before when the Democrats fanned the flames of the previous civil war, against the Republicans some 140+ years ago. Fortunately the Republican side won that war, ended slavery, and kept our great nation together at a time when it was literally breaking apart. I can only hope that now, 14 decades later, that our country has learned its lesson and that President Bush can unite enough of a Republican--and Democrat--following to continue the common defense of our homeland against terrorist attacks before our other fellow Democrat citizens defeat him first. Otherwise, we ALL lose...
