Hey everyone! I'm Shelly, 19, from Illinois. I'll be a sophomore this fall at LSU. I've visited BR on vacation before but it's def. going to be a new experience moving there. Well anyways that's all i've got for an introduction...see you all around.

Damn Yankees.....
Where in IL are you from? I'm originally from Wisconsin Dells...I've lived in Baton Rouge for 3 years now....
Why the big move to Louisiana? I came down to help out some family.
have you been to www.apartmentsbatonrouge.com yet? it's a good place to start...

haha, i was waiting for that...
I'm from as far southern as you can get in Illinois, like right by the kentucky line.
I'm moving to Louisiana just because i need to get away from the madness of IL for a bit, plus i love it there.
thanks for the link, i'm staying in the dorms this semester but it will come in handy in the future.

^haha yep!
so are there any things i should know before i move there? I've already been introduced to the traffic rules:
| Quote: | 1. First, you must learn to pronounce the city name. It's Battn Roodge.
2. Forget traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Baton Rouge has it's own version of traffic rules. Hold on and pray.
3. All directions start with, Get on I-10. Which has no beginning and no end.
4. The Chamber of Commerce calls getting through traffic a scenic drive.
5. Morning rush hour is from 6 to 10. Evening rush hour is from 3 to 7. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday morning.
6. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will get rear-ended.
7. Hoo Shoo Too Road can only be pronounced by a Native.
8. Construction on I-12 is a way of life, and a permanent form of entertainment.
9. All unfamiliar sights are explained by the phrase, "We must be in Denham Springs."
10. If you actually see someone with their turn signal on, it is probably a factory defect.
11. All old ladies with blue hair in Cadillacs have right of way.
12. Lots of streets mysteriously change names as you cross intersections.
13. If asking directions downtown, keep your window rolled up and write your questions on a piece of paper.
14. A trip across town will take a minimum of an hour.
15. Don't carry money, jewelry, family, etc. on Plank Road.
16. The wrought iron on windows downtown isn't ornamental.
17. If you leave one car length for every 10MPH speed between you and the car in front of you, somebody will cut in.
18. Never stare at driver of car with bumper sticker that says, "Keep honking. I'm reloading."
19. Don't stop in Walker for anything. If you have to piss, pull over on side of interstate like everyone else.
20. By driving in baton rouge you waive all responsablilty to any native in such that a rule being 1-19 is not fully understood or followed by anyone who is not a native and finds thierself fully at fault.. If the case is 2 natives 1 must die. |
anything else?

Hello welcome to the site and BR in general and whatnot. Hope you have fun here, or at least survive. Have a nice day.

Wow that is a great list, except the construction is perpetual on I-10, not I-12.! You've been forgiven for being GBA.
You should come bowling with us sometime. Get acquainted and meet some new people.
