Most americans are liberals in beliefs whether they call themselves conservatives or not. Who doesnt want better healthcare?
And dude....newsflash better healthcare and improved social programs don't cripple a society, they improve it...and actually increase YOUR wealth and the wealth of hardworking ppl. I don't see many people who are ill and can't afford healthcare contributing to the economy. And better social programs do not essentially mean higher taxes(with improved efficiancy it could mean LOWER taxes) it just means more efficiant appropriation of government funding(read: less financial dead ends, and more focused spending programs meaning you don't actually have to reduce funding in any major area). so called 'liberal' politics in the US is in crisis because 1. liberal has become a bit of a dirty word 2. very few members of this generation of the democratic party in the US came equipped with the balls to be decisive and not get mired in a perpetual effort not to offend anyone.
just my 2c....
and btw: I'm a conservative, I just don't see the point in labelling good ideas either way. If tips the balance in the advantages/disadvantages stakes no reason not to impliment it just because some asshole labelled it "left-wing" or "right-wing"
