Let's see. Where to begin? Well I left Baton Rouge on Sunday the 28th because I knew the power would be out for a couple of days and the thought of living w/o electricity didn't seem like much fun. So I went north to the Alexandria area where I am originally from. As if it were an omen of things to come the drive that usually takes me about 2 hours took 5 hours. Anyways I visited with friends and family until Tuesday when I came back to Baton Rouge because I have a job here and have lived here for three years.
The drive back was relatively normal. I got back to my apt. and my electricity was already back on. Turned on the tv and i'll be damned I had cable too. This isn't so bad I thought. My internet was not working however and this bothered the hell out of me. Luckily though it too was working again on Thursday. Thern about Friday when all the evacuation and everything was getting underway I noticed a lot of traffic on the interstate. That's to be expected. They had to rescue a lot of people and bring them here, no big deal. The people they were evacuating obviously didn't have vehicles. What pisses me off about all this is the people that do have vehicles and have chosen to make Baton Rouge their new home (at least temporarily). Instead of coming here and finding a place to stay (and I know damn good and well they have somewhere to stay or they would have went somewhere else by now) they apparently wake up about 8:30 AM and just ride around Baton Rouge for no apparent reason. This is what has caused me to get irate. It now takes me an hour to get home from work where it used to take me 15-20 minutes. What I am trying to say is: If you are a displaced evacuee and you have no job in Baton Rouge and you don't have anywhere to go please just stay wherever it is you are now living. Don't go riding around Baton Rouge. The traffic her eis bad enough. Plus you are only making the gas shortage worse. If you are displaced and you have nowhere to stay here and you simply ride around because you have nothing better to do then you are an idiot. Catch I-10 west which will lead you to Lafayette. At that point your options get even better, you can take I-49 north and go to Arkansas or get on I-20 and go east or west (I'd go west personally). If you choose to stay on I-10 west then you can go to Texas. Texas my friends is a very large state with literally thousands of square miles of open land. Go pitch a tent. If that's not your idea of fun then just keep traveling and you can go all the way to California. If you still can't find a hotel room or somewhere to stay turn north. I guarantee there are plenty of cities in this country that have plenty of places to stay so you don't have to ride around Baton Rouge and cause more traffic jams than we already have.
I'm sure everyone will think I am an asshole for writing this but I really don't care. I'm tired of sitting in traffic everywhere I go only to get where I am going and there is nothing left because someone has already bought all of it.
Have a nice day and a safe trip.

oh...and i almost forgot.....there are NO HOTEL ROOMS AVAILABLE IN BATON ROUGE.....none in louisiana for that matter.....go north dumbasses...it's not my fault that you evacuated to houston, then tried to come back to new orleans to be first in line to look at nothingness....stop calling...please. We'd rather have the energy companies.

I am housing such people as this. Would it be mean if I got on my roof and wrote SEND HELP in white spray paint?

Thank you Sunny. I knew I could count on you.
Magnolia, if it gets them out of Baton Rouge, do it.
I found the secret passage to get from my job to my apt today so that it only takes 30-45 minutes for me to get home from work but I am not disclosing any details for fear someone will spread the word and ruin it for me.

Couldn't agree with you more on this one Royce... took me an hour to get from one end of downtown to the opposite end.

My little Burbank route I found works pretty good going west in the evening. East however is bad at least from Bluebonnet to Lee which is where I turn.
