For reasons I cannot understand Prez Bush is being blamed for the slow too late diaster response.
Here is a news article explaining the way this works.
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2005/9/4/151327.shtml

I agree I blame the governor and the mayor for not only not having a plan of action, wasting $8 million dolllars on a pump system that didn't work, piss poor communication with FEMA, FEMA not being used quickly and efficiently, calling 4 martial law and NOT enforcing it, and finnally calling in the national gaurd + 4,000 troops and not knowing what to do with them!!!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

FEMA only gives you a loan if you have a job.

People that believe that Bush overstepped his bounds in going after Iraq may also feel that he should have overstepped to help people affected by Katrina.

That is correct. Bush is not to blame for Hurricane Katrina. By law, this type of disaster is defined as an "act of God".

I don't blame Bush for Hurricane Katrina. What I do blame him for is the slow response. Is it okay if we blame him for that?

I know Bush could not have stopped the Hurricane, it was a NATURAL disaster.

Now, I know he does not know how to read, we learned that when the memo before 9/11 said something to the effect of WATCH OUT FOR PLANES ATTACKING FUCKING BUILDINGS. But, I do get a laugh out of his response on Good Morning America, when he plainly stated that he did not know the levees would break. EVERYONE TOLD HIM THAT....WORDS, AUDIBLE WORDS, WERE SPOKEN TO HIM SAYING THE LEVEES WOULD BREAK. I know that just because someone told him the levees might break, he couldn't do anything about it to stop the storm, but to come out and say that you didn't know the levees would break...you've got to be kidding me. Just once, I'd like to have him admit that he was wrong.

John Kerry would have boosted levee strength with dried, hardened ketchup.

I'm tired of the 9/11 comparisons. Like Sunny said in another thread, the World Trade Center attacks physically affected about 5 city blocks. Those planes did not destroy every highway and bridge leading into or out of an area of many thousands of square miles. They did not destroy the infrastructure of the city of New York nor did they destroy the pysical ability (transportation and communications) of all emergency services in that affected area. New York is a much larger city that was dealing with a much smaller disaster.

Anybody who doesn't blame Bush for this is a fucking ignorant ignoramus. Blame goes all the way to the top. The president takes all the blame because he appointed the highly underqualified Mike Brown; he knew what could happen, and he had the power to get those levees in better shape. I actually come out of this apalled that these Bushites still have faith in this loser. I mean, it wasn't his job to get the people out of the city, but it IS his job to make sure it that it was actually getting done.

I think that the administration acted to late during the relief and rescue efforts during the hurricane Katrina aftermath. They were more focused on Iraq rather than New Orleans. It's true that FEMA should have acted faster but due to bureaucratic and political mismanagement things got out of control. The state officials couldn't do more than they could since the resources in their possession were either insufficient or lacking. The National Guard, many of them assigned in Iraq, arrived too late when they should have been placed on standby.

I was planning of putting an avatar on my account but when I tried editing it there was no entry for avatar options. Does this mean this site doesn't allow user avatars, if the administrators allow this, please tell me how to?
Thanks.
