LSU football fans are in total shock about the news of Karl Dunbar leaving the LSU football program that was reported late Friday afternoon by at least one Baton Rouge television station. I attempted to reach Dunbar on his cell phone with no luck. LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette and LSU Head Coach Les Miles refused to confirm that Dunbar has accepted a job with the Minnesota Vikings, but did admit that the Vikings did ask permission to speak to Dunbar. I believe that the rumor must be true because Dunbar is not denying the report. The bad thing about losing Karl Dunbar is the timing of him leaving the program. With only two weeks before national signing day, the timing could not have been worse. I have spoken to Karl Dunbar at least 20 times since he became the defensive line coach at LSU and I thought he was happy at LSU. I do not know all the details on what took place, but I will try to contact Coach Dunbar in the next day or two. I doubt that Dunbar will reveal anything to me that I can post on the internet as to why he resigned. It could be that he received a deal too good to turn down in the NFL. I knew Karl Dunbar when he played high school football at Plaisance High School in ST Landry Parish and when he was a assistant football coach at Opelousas High School and at Beau Chene High School in Sunset, Louisiana. I will miss him and I wish him the very best. I do believe that Coach Miles will be able to hire a capable replacement for Dunbar, but it might take a little time. I am hoping that Coach Miles will be able to replace him within the next week because of recruiting, but that might not be possible. |

Won't lie....didn't know who he was either.
But the fact that we are losing a coach (a defensive one at that, which I personally think would hurt more with offensive head coach) to the NFL (which means that he's decent) was significant enough to spread the word about.

Maybe he can straighten out my boy Smoot (Fred Smoot, MSU class of 2001). He was involved in that sex boat scandal.

yeah well if our national championshp win didn't make too many national media waves, don't expect this news to do any better. Most casual tiger fans will probably never know about it. I just hope he wasn't too huge of a part of their success because we don't need any more big personnel losses..
