I'm also bumping this but for a reason far beyond the comprehension of the human mind.

Pointer #1. Every meal plan is a bold-face rip-off. Lunch in the Union (Tiger's Hair or whatever) is way over priced except the Magnolia room which is $7.50, but is all you can eat. Breakfast is a good deal in the Tiger's Nair.
Food in the State St./Chimes area (North gate) is expensive too. Only jack-in-box is cheap and it'll make you sick.
So, the pointer is: if possible, buy your own groceries and bring your own lunch (even if it's only Ding Dongs and Coke).

Eat at the LSU Faculty Club at least once during your stint at LSU. They take Paw Points so if you have Paw Points on your meal plan you can eat there in addition to eating at the Union / Highland / Pentagon.

Another place I always enjoyed was the Foster Cafe underneath Foster Hall. Be careful on the staircase. I always enjoyed their salad bar. You could just cram as much as you could into one of those styrofoam containers and it was a flat price. They may have started weighing it by now -shrug-
There is a Subway on State Street also. They recently moved to another building closer to Highland. The building they moved into was a Blimpie's back in the day and for a short time was Rocket Burrito.
There is also Mr. Gatti's (Now it's just Gatti's (I guess)). They have a student special for 5 bucks you get the pizza buffet and drink. It used to be 5 bucks flat but now they might charge tax. If anyone knows the status of this just post it in the thread.

Just curious - how much (total + tip + tax) is a typical lunch at Faculty Club? I've always thought about going there but with a name like that was afraid it'd cost about $10 by the time I got out.
Also, what about that place called "something-something Grill" a block off Highland, like if you cross Highland from the Union and walk about a block toward the Lab School?
I should clarify my remark about meal plans being a rip-off. I personallly have never subscribed to any of the meal plans, but I've known plenty of people who end up with lots of unused meal points that they just lose. One girl quit eating in the dorm after about a week and started making dinner in her dorm room.

The problem with meal plans is people don't use them and end up with all those unused meals at the end of the semester.
I'm sure Benkenobi can weigh in on this.
Like you, I never had a meal plan because I was a commuter. My guess is that kids get the meal plan (well the parents get the meal plan) and the kid ends up eating at McD's everyday or something.
I'm not sure what Grill you're talking about. That might be the Highland Cafeteria based on the directions you gave.
As far as the Faculty Club goes... 10 bucks sounds about right with tax and tip. Their entrees start around 5 or 6 bucks.
Here's what the Feb 2nd Lunch Specials were to give you an idea of pricing:

| Quote: | Built in the 1930s, Evangeline Hall features a large lobby area on the first floor and a game room in the basements, both of which are great for programming, social activities, or study groups. The second floor library offers residents a quiet area for studying. With its moderate size, Evangeline Hall is able to offer students opportunities to interact in a hall that they can truly call “home”.
Residence Hall Information
* Female residents
* 240 spaces
* Two- and three-student rooms with hall baths
* Four- or six-student suites with bath
* Ceiling fans
* Moveable furniture
* Recreation room
* Computer lab and library
* Room dimensions: 15'8" x 15'10" = 246 SF
* Window dimensions: 38 3/4" wide X 68" high
* Located across the street from the Union |

Evangeline is at the top of what people call the "Horse Shoe" which is a collection of residential life buildings off of Highland Road.
That's pretty much all I can add since I was a commuter. I knew a few people that lived there. Their rooms are pretty nicely sized from what I remember.

Yeah, if you're going to get a meal plan, USE IT ... The food isn't all that bad .. and (i dunno if it's still there) there's a secret second-side of the penaton dining unit (opposite Kirby) that serves better stuff I think/thought..
If you think you're going to have extra meals towards the end of the semester, bring some friends/family... They'll let you scan multiple people ..
