Apparently (and I read this in Tiger Weekly this morning), the Dixie Chicks are headlining at Groovin' on the Grounds. I have absolutely no idea how to feel about or react to this. I've always actually enjoyed their music, but after Chick Natalie's comments about President Bush, I'm starting to wonder... Is LSU's entertainment committee just that good (HA!) that they can get a band with that big of a name, or are the Chicks just so desperate for gigs that they agreed to a free concert on a college campus?
Any comments?

Of all the signs we carried at our anti-war march the week Bush began his bombing. the Iron Warriors were the angriest at my sign. They spit their words. They threatened to beat my ass. They called me a faggot. What did my sign say?

The reason there is so much anger against them is:
1. The vast majority of country music fans are from the south, especially Texas, and the south is definitely the most conservative/republican part of the country.
2. The only reason they did it in Europe was to try and get a few cheap cheers and hopefully get more people to their next concert, forgetting where their roots are.
I think it's great how their trying so hard to make things right, hopefully we won't forget and forgive and they will just fade off cause no self-respecting American citizen will support their concerts or buy their music anymore.
This can be an excellent lesson for celebrities who speak out against their country hurting our troops moral, Tim Robbins learned this lesson also.
If you don't support your countries policies or the president during times of war, keep your mouth shut. If nothing was going on and we didn't have troops fighting then fine, I support the first Amendment, I still could care less what some millionaire celebrity thinks but that’s their right to ruin their careers cause they are liberal/democrats and are sick of getting their asses kicked by us Republicans. And furthermore if you hate this country and Bush so much, LEAVE. Go live under Castro for a while or in North Korea and see how terrible our country is then. Dumbasses.

I find the impulse to tell those who disagree with our policies to shut up or to go to Cuba anti-American. There's a reason why freedom of speech was put in Amendment one. It's THAT important.
By the way, the Dixie Chicks' album is still number one on the country charts and it's only been 33 weeks since it was released.
Yeah, they're paying a hell of a price, aren't they?

The backlash from her comments was strong enough for her to take back everything she said, apologizing for everything, and beg for the forgiveness of our president and this country. Also there is some special this week where the Dixie Chicks speak out and once again ask for forgiveness, the previews show all three of them crying.
But your right, they haven't paid any price at all, nope not affecting them in any way. I'm sure the next time the fat one has the impulse to run her mouth she won't think twice seeing that this in no way affected her or her group.
Also do you know why there is a Bill of Rights? WAR! We FOUGHT another country to earn our independence, and since then have FOUGHT WARS to keep our independence protecting our way of life, which includes the Freedom of Speech.

If you read Natalie Maines actual statement which you misrepresent entirely, it never takes back her sentiment, but only apologizes for its tone. It only clarifies what she said:

The statement by NM:

As for your contention that the only reason for our rights is our series of wars. . . as with any propaganda it's only half true. Certainly, if it weren't for a couple of our wars, we might very well be living under the rule of a less tolerant regime. But in the past our own government has made moves to take back those rights, and if those moves had not been opposed strongly by our citizens, those rights might be gone today. War was one factor.
Our vigilance to KEEP those rights from being taken by other Americans (like you probably) is another.

It doesn't just apologize for its tone, but directly to the president.
| Quote: | | As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect. |
Bottom line, overseas she was bold with her comments when the entire crowd supported her. Now she wishes she'd never said anything. Did she change her opinion on the matter? No. So she is a coward for taking it back.
I'm not trying to take away anyone's rights. Like I said I love my country and the freedoms we have. But I also understand that we must fight to protect those rights and ourselves. Once the fighting begins protesting the war and insulting our President only hurts our troops moral, thus putting them in more danger. Is it legal, sure. Does it do anything positive, no.
I wish the federal government didn't have as much power as it does. I believe state governments should have more control, but if our country is at war, especially against a dictator who supports terrorism against America and starves his own people, I will support that war and whoever is in charge at the time. Even if it were a Democratic President.
And that is the difference. The Liberal/Democrats cannot honestly oppose this war. Too much good is coming out of it. (The liberation of people, security of America) You oppose Bush, and you know that this victory greatly increases his chances of being re-elected. So now you'll turn to the economy or anything else you can find to try and put him down. It's too late though, this war was history making and everyday we find more things in that country that slap those in the face that opposed the war.
