Post subject: Driving in Baton Rouge |

My boyfriend told me a quote he heard that couldn't be more true: "People don't drive in Louisiana - they aim." No kidding, huh? Driving on the interstate is like an obstacle course. You have to constantly pay attention cause there are so many idiots out there driving. Drivers around here are just really stupid or they actually believe that there is nothing wrong with running a red light, darting in and out of cars, cutting in front of people, pulling out in front of you (and then going half your speed), and so on. Trying to drive around here is so irritating!! I've lived up north before, and the difference is shocking. People down here are anything but courteous drivers. It seems that drivers around here only care about themselves and getting where they're going. DRIVING IN BATON ROUGE DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!
Anyone else?

haha those are my sentiments exactly. I moved here from illinois and it threw me into shock when I moved here. You feel like you're in a video game all the time and your goal is to get where you're going without getting in a wreck. I completely agree that northern drivers are WAY better!

Hey, watch it, I am one of those drivers and like most of the others, I suffer from road rage, so its probably a smart idea not to insult us to our faces.

Yeah, what is with people that tailgate you and then when you move over to let them pass they go the same speed you're going.. it's like they just need something to base their relative speed on.. but they have to be a foot away from whatever that thing is. But then if there isn't anything in front of them they don't have a problem going the speed limit.
In regards to Baton Rouge vs New Orleans.. yeah.. go drive around in New Orleans / Metairie and you'll thank god you're in Baton Rouge. I had to go back to Gretna last Tuesday after having left my cell phone there the previous day (because I took Brigid to go sell her car). And I sat in traffic forever it seemed. There was a gravel truck or something overturned on the west bank and that caused traffic to backup across the entire city. And of course where was I going? The west bank.
I was letting people in who were merging from onramps and such and I was getting people honking at me for not "closing the gap". If you're sitting still.. why not sit still with a few car lengths between you are the car in front of you?
I believe in having room between cars in case someone needs to merge in. I feel it actually gets traffic flowing because if I let people in, that opens a gap for someone else to go in etc.
I think if people didn't tailgate we wouldn't have half of the traffic problems we have in this city... space between cars = people can merge in = not everyone has to all STOP and then people can merge in.
Also, people who don't signal bother me. Let me know what the fuck you're doing.
Tailgaters - Get a little closer so you can kiss it (my ass that is).

in arib countries the roads may be painted two lanes but there will be 4 rows of cars. try driving there when the rule is whoever is bigger is right.
