With Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, and The Wolfman Universal is responsible for the majority of the great, classic movie monsters. Universal has gone back to their roots in monster movies with Van Helsing. Unfortunately for the movie-going public and classic horror movie enthusiasts, Van Helsing looses big time.
Van Helsing stars Hugh Jackman as the infamous Van Helsing, who is employed by the Catholic Church to destroy evil monsters. Van Helsing is sent to Transylvania to destroy the ever-feared Dracula. (Portrayed by Richard Roxburgh) Once he arrives in Transylvania, Van Helsing teams up with Anna Valerious, the last surviving member of a family who has sworn to kill Dracula. (Played by the ever beautiful Kate Beckinsale) Van Helsing manages to cram Dracula, The Wolfman, Frankenstein’s Monster and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde all into one story. It’s too bad for Van Helsing that while looking for plausible reasons to fit in all of the classic monsters that the screenwriters totally forgot about a plot.
