Post subject: Is the Day After Tommorrow Possible??? |

I just recently went to the movie the Day After tommorrow & was wondering of the possiblity of the movie actually comming true. Is there a theory that I haven't heard of that insinuates that that could happen? This is a theory I missed in Chemistry I suppose, however, Could someone help me on this quest for the theorem and what it is called or if it exists at all? Is it a theory that the last ice age occured so rapidly & if so could it happen again?

Read the book the movie is based on:
The Coming Global Superstorm by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber.
Now granted Art Bell is the guy who has a radio show on late night AM radio about UFO's and the paranormal, and Strieber is the author of Communion, but some of the data is supported.
From what i have read, it is possible, and it will happen eventually, for the exact reason (NOT THE CAUSE THE MOVIE CLAIMS) it happens in the movie, a rapid change in ocean currents. The current data doesnt support the storms causing change that rapidly, it would be weeks or months not days.
Its a cycle that the planet has gone thru over and over for several billion years.
The earth warms up, changes the currents, which causes cooling, and freezing. Eventually it thaws, and the cycle begins again.
The wildcard in the mix is human involvement. The earth has always gone thru warming trends, and there is no proof that things we do have any discernable impact. Sure things we do arent good, but one good volcanic eruption does more damage than humans could do in years.

The one thing about the movie I wonder is about is how fast the storm would freeze stuff... Like people would freeze in seconds. Is that true or hollywood?

Thank you sunny for the voice of reason. I don't think that the Day After Tomorrow is possible at least not in those terms and time span. I think that this is the beginning of another shift in teh Earth's climate just like scientists have shown to have happened several times in the history of the Earth.

I aint seen that movin picture show yet, but I aint worried at all. You city folk would git screwed, but us country folk would survive. With our shotguns, rifles and our four-wheel drives.
