By Brennan DavidThe men’s and women’s track and field season came to a heartbreaking conclusion Saturday night when the Tigers took third place at the outdoor national championships in Austin while the women missed their second national title of the year by a single point.
The Lady Tigers entered the 4x400 meter relay, the last event of the evening, trailing the UCLA Bruins by six points. Coach Pat Henry and his Lady Tigers would need a fifth place finish by the Bruins and a national championship in the event in order to claim the team championship. The foursome of Neisha Bernard-Thomas, Hazelann Regis, Monique Hall, and Nadia Davy won the event title and broke the school record by running for a 3:25.26 time but lost the team title when the Bruins took fourth place in the event for a 69-68 final scoring.
“I haven’t been able to run the 400, so I put my injury aside and ran for my team one last time,” said Regis. “I just put everything on my back and decided to run real hard and put it all behind me.”
