Smoke is certainly no Skip Bertman. If my memory serves me right, every time Skip went to the CWS, they won the title. Last time Smoke took the team, the went 2 and home. The team also went 2 and home at the SEC championship.
Do ya'll think that fans will give Smoke another chance, or do ya'll think his time is running out?

Smoke isn't doing a horrible job, but he needs to look at what he is doing. Starting Bumstead wasn't a bad decision, but once he gave up that homer in the bottom of the 1st, he should have been taken out. In all games where Bumstead has started and given up hits that soon, he never recovers. I think if he would have pulled Bumstead right away, LSU could have won the game.

Well ya can't blame it all on bumstead because he was pulled after the second. They got four more off of determan. The problem was they have a way better pitcher in carillo than either of LSU's. We just couldn't get the hits that we needed and then they walked holt and he is one of our better hitters. I just think they were a little green today in the CWS but we'll see what happens. I think they will pull it together and come back and send Miami back to Florida like The football team sent OU back to Oklahoma.

Bertman used to have the same problem with Bo Petit. If Bo was on by the third inning, he was shot.
Smoke likes to leave pitchers in. Skip NEVER left a pitcher in for a whole game. They get worn out too easily that way.
Smoke biggest problem is getting his pitching staff steady.

Well Stacey he didn't leave'em in too long today. Three pitchers in one inning. That was a thrashing if ever I saw one. They got the hitters now if they could just get some good arms...maybe next year.
Even though they didn't bring home a baseball title this year no one can argue the fact that LSU has one of the best sports programs in the world period.

Okay, yes, LSU lost yesterday to UAB , but before the nay-sayers pop in here, I would just like to say that Smoke has done a pretty good job, since he has been head coach. This year's team will improve, and a great season will be had...

dammit, why are we talking about this crap already?
We are 10-12 games into the season, nobody should be calling for anyone's head at this point.
Smoke has taken the team to back to back CWS appearances, yes they have gone 2 and out both times, but that doesn't mean the team is in shambles. This is almost as ridiculious as the Nebraska football team firing a guy for going 9-3 in back to back years.
The team we have is a very young team. With the exception of the 3 main starting pitchers, our pitching is very young and inexperienced.
Give them time, they will come around, and they will be back in the CWS this year.
I hate people that call for someones head after a bad start, for example, everyone who wanted to fire brady halfway through this season (how does your foot taste?)
If this year's team has a losing record, we'll talk. Until then, just remember that LSU has won 20 of 21 series' in the last couple years.

so, there is one thing that really pisses me off about smoke.
I really hate his bullshit ho hum attitude. If you are going to go out and argue a call, at least get emotional about it.
Smoke likes to waddle out to the umpire, calmly ask what happened, then waddles back to the dugout.
SHOW SOME GOD DAMN EMOTION. Run out to the ump, throw your hat, throw your arms up and yell about something, kick your hat, cause a stink. It will get the fans up and excited, and it will get the players up and excited. If your coach doesn't show emotion about a bad call, why would the players?
Tonight (vs tulane) smoke waddled out to the ump, and waddled back home. It would have been a perfect time to get the crowd back into the game.

We should kill him and dismember his unemotional carcass. But really who cares? It's not like it's football or something.

still, in baton rouge they expect champions. Anything less is unacceptable. While I don't follow this mentality, I still think he needs to go.

Anywhere there's a coach nobody likes, there Adam will be defending him to the death.
I'm not going to say that a rock could have won more games coaching the LSU program the last few years, but it could have won at least as many for sure. The past three LSU teams had enough talent to win at least one national championship, and they didn't even win one World Series game.
This is a pivotal point in Smoke's career. The Bertman recruits will be all gone next year and we will see these next couple of years what the team is like when it all Smoke's recruits.
