By ELENA GUERRAIn high school, you knew everybody, parking was a stress-free activity that took only a few minutes, and you could study for a test the night before and still make an A. At LSU there are approximately 30,000 students, parking is a nightmare, and if you think cramming the night before will get you the grades you want, think again.
“A typical mistake with freshmen is, they think they can study 3 hours before a test like they did in high school, but it just doesn’t work,” said Melissa Brocato, a Study Strategy Counselor at the Center for Academic Success.
Reviewing your notes daily is an excellent way to eliminate stress and the urge to cram. Many students find that re-writing their notes helps them remember important information longer. At the end of a chapter, it is a good idea to review lecture notes for the entire section. That way you see how all of those new concepts fit together.
