There are. However, none of them were actually linked or sequels until Final Fantasy X-2. This one is a sequel to Final Fantasy 7, except it will be a movie, not a game.

OMG!!!! It's one of the best animated films ever. I got the whole thing in Japanese (some guy posted a bit torrent of it on the internet that was up for a couple of horus before it was taken down, I got the bit torrent, I am going to buy it soon, once the Translation comes out). It's is an amazing film, I almost cried in the end. The graphics were amazing as well as the storyline, the only reason why i could follow what was going on was because I knew much about the movie already. I will tell more when more people actually see it.
Amazing how I have been waiting nearly one year for this to come out. According to the last post I made about it in Sept. of 2004

Damn I should have now that I think about it, stock in Square-Enix, that woud have been a good move, alomst as good as investing in oil when gas prices were shooting up and still are...
