Post subject: New condos coming to LSU |
  |
|
Someone is coming to town and going to clean up the north side of the stadium with new condos. I heard that the condos are suposed to be really nice and right next to the football stadium. Has anyone heard about these? I think that would be an awsome place to live.

The articles I have read say that they are not targeting students, rather out of town tailgaters and rich people who wanna buy them and rent them out for much higher than they are worth. I think it sucks that they are gonna tear down affordable student living space to put up high class seasonal stuff :/

Where is that article you are talking about. I am all for nice condo living for students, and if they want to pad the units with timeshare or something I would be all for it. I could clearly see the investment interest if they wanted to rent places out to tailgaters, out of town professors, and visiting scientists.
Personally I would have looked at moving in to the south of campus of condos, but they were not ready when I moved to town.

No, it is not the only affordable student housing, but it is becoming scarce. First the Venue, then South Gate Towers, now this place? Last I checked, I made $600 dollars a month and college costs are rising. I just don't think we need any more places like that. Yes, it is bringing "new life" to the north side of campus, but it is also putting a lot of students out of a home on rather short notice.
It's a shame how money talks. I just think that this is a college town, so they should cater more to the students who build and shape it who are here almost year round rather than trying to pull in older people who are only here during particular sporting seasons.
If I didn't know any better, I would think you were associated with this place and/or the people behind it...

The article was in the Reveille either last Thursday or Friday I think. If you look it up on the LSUReveille website, you should be able to find it.

If they would be affordable to students, I wouldn't mind. But, they have said it, in plain English, that the college students are not thier target group to sell these things to.

It astonishes me that a person who says they voted for Bush believes things like this.

I don’t think getting rid of student housing is good. I would think it would be in the universities interest to try to own and operate the nearby apartments, but I don’t know if people would be happy about it. I don’t know if the tail gate community will buy 100 condo’s next to campus. People pay a lot to get an RV space, I could see people buying condo’s. I could see them selling a number of places to the university, and the university using them to board VIPs and visitors, but I don’t know about 100.
The main reason I looked at the southgate towers is because it would cost me and my family less to live there compared to the place we are in now and it is closer to campus. If I could find another place close to campus I would consider living their too.
If they rent the places out to students at close to the same rates as southgate I don’t see the problem at all.

See this site for more information. Looks like Capstone Developers will have to rip up at least two city blocks of older apartment buildings to make room for "The Fieldhouse" condos, with individual UNITS costing as much as $500,000(!). It is supposed to have a French Quarter flavour.

I have to say, the only thing that pisses me off about this development deal is that I've had that same idea and am rather pissed off that someone else got to it first.
