On September 3, 2004, the San Diego Union Tribune released the story of a marine and his pregnant fiancé who died after slamming into a cement truck at over 100 mph while engaging in an illegal street race around 1 a.m. Mario Gonzalez was weaving in and out of traffic challenging another racer when he lost control of his vehicle while making a lane change. The other driver fled the scene and has remained at large since the incident.

While national coverage generally portrays this hazardous endeavor as being endemic to California, illegal street racing is more popular than ever in Louisiana. The accidents are also just as prevalent.

Besides the poor grammar and spelling, there is a lot of misinformation in this story. The only thing I'm going to waste my time correcting (as if anyone will actually read this message board) is that the Sports Car Club of Louisiana had nothing to do with meeting at Reggies and does not condone illegal street racing. Since they are an informal group of car enthusiasts, most of whom are involved in autocross and/or racing at the local dragstrips, you probably don't have to worry about being sued for slander. This doesn't change the fact that you should still be ashamed of yourself.

Good luck with a career in journalism. I can see you've already given up on integrity, and don't have enough pride in your work to do a decent editing job.

Also I would like to add: Does anyone really give a rat's ass what a bunch of douchebags with tricked out Honda Civics do with their spare time?

Poor fact checking, substandard use of vocabulary and lack of professionalism in general make this an article that should have hit the editing room floor.

If the writer had any interest in putting together something besides a quick excuse of an article, he would have come out to the local spots, got a feel for what he was reporting on and realized his friends were either misinformed or just tired of him using them as a substitute for actual research.

I recommend the writer actually look into the subject matter and follow up with an article that contains more fact and less useless nonsense.

Right, like its just import drivers at that.... I recall a time driving back to my apartment from Lee and some guy in a Trans Am pulls on the side of me and revs... I look at him for a second and laugh and he pulls off.... I would have did the same to a Civic. Hint hint, street racing is NOT just imports. I love your statement though, really intelligent Rolling Eyes

I completely agree. What I would love to see one day is someone pull up at a red light, rev up the engine, then once the light turns green, they hit the gas and get plowed by someone who was running a red light. Spinning Demon

Looked to me like he interviewed the people involved. As far as any reader can tell, his sources are true.

How about instead of making really laughable accusations with nothing to substantiate them, you give me some evidence of what you claim.

We don't know you, and have no reason to believe you over the writer.

Oh I'm sorry I left you and your Trans-Am out. Would you like to cry in my pocket. I usually have my fun by watching my rear view mirror and when one of you try to run up beside me I inadvertently change lanes and you get to try out your high performance brakes. Kick in the Nuts!

Typical, believe what you read.Writers never lie or exagerate, nor do they run with unproven stories. The Liberal media has taught me this.
