To me it seems that the whole meaning of X-mas is getting more and more lost to Verision Wireless, Singular cell phones, Budwiser, COX cable, AOL, Netzero, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Ford, Curcuit City, Best Buy, etc. adverts. It has come down to too much comercialization of X-mas where you need to buy as many people you know at least one "useless" gift. Why is X-Mas for the past 10 years been associated with; the headache of Christmas shopping, the annoyance of putting up Christmas lights, or (My favorite!) some athiest offended because a school had a manger scene or had a sign that said "Jesus is the reason for the season." I am not sure when fireworks became a part of the Christmas celbration either. Also no thanks to Coca Cola in the 40's? 30's? Not only did tghe company change his colors to red and white, but also now it seem everyone prays Hommage to Santa Klause and his 8 demonic flying reindeer instead of Jesus. Sorry but Rudolf's glowing red nose is a sign of evil. Rolling Eyes
I think Scrooge had the right idea. I'm not putting up a Christmas tree, I'm not puting up any lights, and I'm not buying any fireworks, and not buying anybody anything, but I am still going to Midnightmass!!!!
So Bahh Humbug and too all a night!

You should really consider investing in a spelling book...or two.

You do realize that if Coca-Cola decided to "pay hommage[sic]" to Jesus instead of the iconoclastic Santa Claus, they would be steamrolled by every single non-Christian. These people aren't out to celebrate Christmas, they're out to make money. It isn't their fault that YOU'VE allowed them to "commercialize" Christmas. They're just doing their job. It's not their fault you've succumbed to a "demonic" version of Christmas.

Besides, since when is giving someone a gift a bad thing?

Actually, the roots of the celebration of Christmas originate in the Saturnalia, the worship of the Mother goddess system and the worship of a Sun god from back in the day. It's really cool to check it out! ^_^ Add in some commercialization, a few myths about fat men named Claus, and you eventually get what we have.

I am not saying I disagree with you at all, but I find it humorous how you bitch and moan about everyone commercializing Christmas and what it is truly about, but for the first half of your post you couldn't even spell out "Christmas"...you abbreviated it with "x-mas". Isn't that in itself removing the real meaning for the season?

Actually.. some Christians accept that X, because it can be seen as standing for a cross..

Quote:
The Greek word for Christ is Xristos. The shortening of Christmas to Xmas has been common since the sixteenth century, with the "X" often symbolizing a cross

26 Dec 04 - 01:13 > lsugroovychlck: now that i have shared that tidbit of info with all of you have a merry happy chrismahanakawanza
26 Dec 04 - 01:13 > JasonB: wow...so umm....take that! lol
26 Dec 04 - 01:13 > lsugroovychlck: christmas trees are also derived from pagenistic traditions
26 Dec 04 - 01:12 > lsugroovychlck: hmm actually christmas is a paganistic holiday...when the romans conquered the pagens they changed the winter solstice to jesus's birth

................................................

OK first I don’t think the solstice will ever be on the 15th of any year. The 2004 solstice was precisely at December 21, 2004 at 7:42 A.M

Chanukah this year was December 8-16, so maybe that is what you are thinking of.

Second the Christmas is/was the celebration of the birth of Christ, hence not it self a pagan holiday. However celebrating birthdays altogether was not something done by the early church. It is clear that the early church did not make a large production of Christmas.

Romans did not change the winter Solstice to Jesus’s birthday when they conquered ‘the’ Pagans. A) Why do I say this, because the Roman’s where Pagan and Christianity (with a new Emperor) came upon them. B) It’s reasonably clear and well documented that Pagan Rome did not celebrate ‘the’ Solstice, they did however have a popular ‘birth of sun god related holiday’ that was near the time of the Solstice and incorporated new years. The Roman Emperor coordinated with the Church to allow the celebrating the new god’s birthday (Christ) at the time of old ‘sun gods birthday’.

Although some Historians simplify the conversion of Pagan Rome.
"Christianity did not destroy paganism; it adopted it" (The Story of Civilization: Caesar and Christ, vol.3, p.595).

The story of the Christmas tree is in the Bible as a pagan celebration (Jer.10:1-5). So I don’t think you are telling anyone anything new to remind them of that.
