Nice list--I have been to all of these places and had many a beer there (and drunken them well)--but he asked for a list of "bars" specifically. A lot of the places that you listed above are actually classified as "bar AND GRILLS" and are, hence, allowed to remain open on Sundays. Also, he only wanted LSU-area bars listed, but, then again, he didn't list any specific perimeters for what he considered the vicinity of LSU... To answer your question, Club Upscale does look boarded up, but maybe it is only temporarily, since the rest of the building is having some work done on it. Also, Tabby's Blues Box has been shut down for a few months now due to Tabby Thomas' stroke, and it remains unclear if his children will re-open it (I certainly hope they will)...

True enough I suppose, but I consider just about any place that stays open relatively late and serves alcohol to be a bar, regardless of food availability. I had heard a rumor that Tabby's was shutting down but havn't been downtown to inspect myself. Thanks for the bad news a-hole! } As far as distance from LSU I tried to stay in the perimeter that LSUDave set with The Station..no wait he said Stadium Club. Oh well. I go to LSU and those are the bars that I go to. Some more than others and others still not at all (e.g. Parrot Beach).

Yes, Club Upscale is closed down. That's where me and my group are planning on putting our bar for this project. It's going to be called "Red Stick Draft House". It's a movie theatre that has a bar in it.

Sounds great. Of course, for personal nostalga reasons, I would always hope that it would be re-converted back into the old "Papa Joe's" heavy metal bar that it used to be years ago... Anyone here ever go there back when it was still "Papa Joe's"? LSUDave?

I remember when the hotel there was called the Ramada Inn the first time around (it was called that prior to the mid-1990's and then again in the late-90's, I believe)...they had a damn good bar there with a hot bartender chick who was known to get up on the bar and do Coyote Ugly-styled dancing...

I remember Papa Joe's, though I can't say for sure that I ever went, I may have. I remember the Prince too. They used to throw wanna-be raves there. I say wanna be because how do you throw what is supposed to be a squatter's styled warehouse party in a hotel ballroom? I digress. Good luck with the project Cyber22. They serve beer and food on the balcony at these big ass movi-plexes (I have forgotten the name) in South Florida. It rocks! I'd take a date to your movie house.

After the Varsity shut down in the late 1980's, it re-opened under a new name, "The Varsity Take Two", using a similar format that you mention above, at least until the Chimes' ownership bought it out and changed it again to handle live bands (I wish that they had kept it as a beer-serving moviehouse--it sounds like a good way to watch a flick! ). You may want to do a little research on the Varsity's experiment. Maybe they were a just little ahead of their time and now there is a market for it...
