I am throwing a party at the end of the semester to celebrate graduation. All of my friends are coming, including someone that I really want to impress. The only problem is, I can’t cook and I have no idea what to serve. I don’t want to have just chips and stuff, you know? I want to have really good food.
Dear party planner,
I can relate. When you are in college, it can be hard to throw the perfect party with a limited budget and cooking skills. But don’t worry, you can throw a great party with minimal kitchen duty. I have a few suggestions. Sometimes it can be fun to have a pot luck dinner where all of your guests contribute. This is great way to get your friends involved and to take some of the stress off of the host. If you really want to provide food for your guests though, there are still other options. If you have a grill, Maxwell’s on Corporate is a great place to get pre-marinated meat and seafood. All you have to do is throw them on the grill and buy already made sides. Or, since crawfish season is coming to a close, you might want to pick up some boiled crawfish and beer. The point is that there are several places in town that cater to your need. All you need to do is pick of the phone book; it’s an excellent resource to find pre-made food for any occasion.

Dear Emeril-Wanna-Be
For a large group of people, barbeque is a good way to go. Don’t have a pit? No problem. I believe that the reason George Forman was put on this planet was to invent his grill. Even the most inept person can cook on George’s Grill. If you are truly incompetent then you can get food from someplace else and serve it as your own. I recommend the middle road. Don’t go to Canes to pick something up, but there are a lot of good cheap restaurants that can help you out as well. There are also a large number of delicious prepared foods at Winn-Dixie. Just remember that eventually your impressed individual will find out that you can’t even cook Ramen noodles and…well that’s another topic for another day.
