The Republican party has been on a steamroll ever since the Whitewater investigations of the Clinton era. They gained a congressional majority during his first term and have tightened their hold more and more ever since.
However revelations during the last year have shown several prominent Republicans to be less than perfect as they sometimes depict themselves to be.
I'm referring to the Tom Delay ethics violations stemming from his acceptance of lobbyist's lavish gifts. Also there is Ohio Gov. Bob Taft who is under investigation for similar violations. Who could forget senate hopeful Jack Ryan and his sex scandal that led to his dropping out of the Illinois senate race last summer (which resulted in a republican senate seat going to up and coming Democrat Barack Obama).
I beleive that the contemptuous behavior of top Republicans and the arrogance of the Bush administration could lead to a Clintonesque departure from power.

Okay, since no one else is posting, I guess I will.
I disagree. I believe the stuff going on with Tom Delay is truly a non-issue. Other Congressmen do it... democrats and republicans. Some fact-checking websites actually dug into these such things and found worse offenders than Delay.
Jack Ryan was a shithead and shouldnt have done what he did with his wife. He got what he deserved. Taft too, but I think he should have gotten a harsher punishment.
I doubt that it was Clinton that made Democrats lose power... people still love Clinton. He would've been elected a 3rd time if he could have ran again. I believe it was the platform as a whole. The platform of less morality is what made Democrats lose Congress. The Contract with America of 10 years ago put the GOP there.
The exit polls showed that morality played a big decision in who people voted for, and a large majority voted Republican. These Americans dont want to see gay marriage, sex on TV, partial-birth abortion, etc. that Democrats are pushing to allow. These Americans want our legislators to make law, not the Supreme Court.
The fact is, many people do vote by their religious faith. Christians dont believe there should be a state church nor want one; however, we shouldn't have to hold back our faith when we vote. Many of our laws today were built based on some sort of Biblical foundation. And to many Christians, the Republicans are friendlier to us than Democrats (unless you're Zell Miller).

Well I can say that I am glad to finally get you to agree with me LEstay at least partially.
I agree that there are plenty of Democrats who have had ethical discrepancies as bad as or worse than those I mentioned. You brought up a good point that the Republicans came into power because of their 'Contract with America' but I think that may also be their stumbling block. That contract is what really sold them to the conservative, religious middle class that keeps them in power and I think that it won't take many more of these discrepancies before that power base begins to have second thoughts.
You are also right that Clinton was popular and he may very well have won a third term had it been allowed. What I was referring to as him being the cause of a republican takeover of congress is the taxes and such things he pushed for and passed that turned off many voters even though they were beneficial to the nation as a whole. I also think that the personal attack strategies that the republicans started using were really effective when the affected democrats did not strike back like they should have. Bill Clinton suffered the majority of his presidency with Ken Starr and various adversaries attempting to turn their political fantasies and theories into reality. Sure he did some things that he shouldn't have but then I think that a lot if not all people have done as bad or worse than Bill Clinton ever will (I know I have).
I don't blame people for voting with their religious beleifs, I know that I do. I believe that everyone in this country should be allowed to pray to whatever entity they choose to at any time they choose as long as it isn't in the middle of I-10 during rush hour. in other words as long as they aren't shutting down the rest of the world in doing so. In a classroom is fine with me, or at a ball game or wherever. However I also believe that the government organizations of this country should allow all religions to practice the same and be represented the same. (If you have a copy of the Ten Commandments in a public place you should include a copy of the Koran and all other signifigant religious articles of various faiths. As you can see this could run into a logistical problem.)
Back to the original subject. You mentioned that morality played a large part in the election of many Republican leaders. I agree. That I think will also be their undoing. I think that a great many of these voters are tolerating the wars and higher oil prices and all the related inconveniences because of the morality issue but if they lose that one characteristic i think they will lose their faith in their chosen leaders altogether.
As far as Zell Miller goes I really can't blame him but then I can. He claims to be a Democrat yet he speaks at the RNC. However he is an old southern Democrat which is closer to being a modern Republican than a modern Democrat. I still think he should at least register as a republican if he is going to support them, otherwise I guess he is, well for lack of a better term... a flip flopper.
